Till Death Do Us Part
Come 30th April 2019 which is less than a week away, my ‘partner in crime’, ‘better half’ or whatever else you might want to tag her as will officially be Mrs Goh.
When or how did it start – many ask.
Perhaps it kind of came out of my mind and into the open when an ex-colleague (a tiny little Vietnamese dynamite by the name of Kim) suddenly asked me in the presence of my other half – What do you think of Velia?
As the conversation went further, I recalled saying something like “I am not looking for a girlfriend but a wife”.
After that it kind of went like a whirlwind, we spent many hours after work chatting and getting to know each other a little better. I took a risk and held nothing back, sharing the good, the bad and the ugly – the whole nine yards. And I believe she pretty much did the same.
Somehow it felt right, when I lacked clarity she provided support and when she did I did the same. However I would say it was not without its own challenges, but somehow communication seem to pull us through the darkest of days so far.
One of the first things I told her was – ‘We are Stronger Together!’ and not forgetting ‘Women are always right!’ and from then on her phrasebook has become thicker by the day.
After many kilos gained (both of us), and many splendid desserts shared later I dare say we are both looking forwards to that day when we both say – I do!
Together Forever
These are the 2 words most often used, abused in a relationship prior to nuptials. One thing most couples bank on is the feeling of euphoria to keep them going even through the darkest periods.
However I find that the formula is simple yet difficult at the same time, words are but words and if not backed by actions – they are nothing but lip service. Show your other half how you feel by small little acts of affection, vary it in the bedroom and out of it. Surprise them, dont let them expect it on a regular cycle e.g. birthdays and anniversaries.
A story to illustrate this point, many years ago I helped a friend source a diamond for his 10 year anniversary. When his wife received it, her first response was – are you dying? She was so unaccustomed to his act that she thought immediately of the worst. The bright side is she trusts him, I know of other wives that would say – are you cheating on me?
The thing I love about Velia is her heart, she has kindness unmatched by anyone else I’ve ever met. Her love is the kind you feel every single day, doesnt need words but I know undoubtedly that she literally loves me unconditionally. I am grateful, and I look forward to sharing the rest of my life with this very cheeky monkey (lao gao).
